General manager Scott Howson announced on Thursday the deal with the 18-year-old Johansen, who was taken fourth overall in last summer's draft. He scored 25 goals and had 44 assists in 71 games with Portland of the Western Hockey League during the 2009-10 season.

The 34-year-old Halpern joined his fifth NHL team on Tuesday. Halpern split last season between Tampa Bay and Los Angeles. He had nine goals and 10 assists. The team disclosed the injury Tuesday. It said Sheppard was hurt in an off-ice accident on Saturday night in Vail, Colo., but did not say what happened.
